Peter Louis Gehlbach, MD, PhD, is Professor of Ophthalmology at the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute. Dr. Gehlbach received his is MD from University of Vermont, and PhD in Cell and Integrative Physiology from the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Gehlbach specializes in performing complex vitreo-retinal surgery and in caring for patients referred with vitreo-retinal disease.
His grant-supported research is directed at discovering new treatments for blinding eye disease, and has led to numerous frequently cited published works, and important patents advancing the field of ophthalmic microsurgery.
He is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of retinal surgeons.
Since 2000 Dr. Gehlbach has been an integral part of the administration of the Retina Division at the Wilmer Eye Institute.
